Suvasini Puja is traditionally conducted at India Cultural Center and Temple during major events like Kumbhabhishekam and Devi Yagnam’s. This year it will be conducted on Friday, Aug 24, 2018, during the Astadasa Shakthi Peeta Sahitha Sri Lalitha maha yagnam in a grand manner. Friday, August 24th is also very auspicious as its the Friday in Shravana masam when Varalakshmi puja and vratam is performed.
It is believed that the Goddesses Durga, Lakshmi and Sarawati shower their blessings on those who worship them on this day, and help one to achieve what one needs. Suvasini puja involves worshipping a married woman, “Sumangali”, considering her as a manifestation of Goddess Durga. Suvasini Pooja is a powerful ritual performed to eliminate all sorts of relationship problems.
ICCT has chosen 19 Suvasini’s from Memphis area who originally belong to different states/regions of India. These 19 Suvasini’s will be worshipped at 6:30 PM on Friday during the yagnam.
Only 19 sponsors can avail the opportunity on a first-come-first-serve basis to perform puja to the Suvasini’s. All Puja materials including a new silk (Pattu) saree will be provided by ICCT. Sponsorship for the Suvasini puja is $500. (This sponsorship is only for Suvasini Puja and Yagnam is not included in this. It is not necessary to be a sponsor of the Yagnam to participate in the Suvasini puja)
